Changing of the Guard: Phase 1
On July 1, we welcomed several new leaders to the college and thanked others for their service.
- Dean’s Office: It seems as though we have been playing musical offices in the suite, as associate deans have been moving in and out. Please see the attachment for a list of the associate deans’ responsibilities.
- Shawn Long has assumed the position of Senior Associate Dean. He will focus on day-to-day budget and personnel concerns, as did Bill Hill, as well as having an expanded portfolio of recruitment and RPT responsibilities. He retains oversight of diversity initiatives in the college and the LEADS program.
- Greg Weeks assumed the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, taking over most of Shawn’s responsibilities. See the attachment for his portfolio.
- Banita has added the title of Director of Advising to her portfolio, as all the professional advisors in the college now will directly report to her.
- Rick Tankersley is now officially Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. Peter will have some added responsibilities until Rick’s return. We are also hiring a graduate program manager who will be able to take on some of the grad program responsibilities. The anticipated start date for this latter position is late summer. For any questions in Rick’s area, that cannot be handled by Peter and his staff, please contact Shawn or me.
- We said good-bye again to Charlie last week, who is now again enjoying retirement in Portland, Oregon. A huge thank-you to him for helping out over the last semester, and especially working with Shawn to re-think the organization of the Dean’s Office, post Bill Hill.
- Please welcome Cheryl Brown, Interim Chair of Political Science and Public Administration. Cheryl has agreed to serve as chair until a new chair is selected. A committee will be constituted and an internal search will be conducted in the fall.
- Cherie Maestas moves from Co-Director of the Public Policy Ph.D. program to Director. Martha Kropf steps down from this role, after three years of strong leadership of the program. Thank you, Martha, and hello, Cherie!
